Quantifying the influence of encapsulant and backsheet composition on PV‐power and electrical degradation

Although the technical and economic properties of standard polymer photovoltaic (PV) materials (ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) encapsulant fluorine-containing polyethylene terephthalate (PET) backsheet) meet basic requirements, more sustainable polyolefin-based encapsulants backsheets have been developed. These new polyolefin to prove their performance compared established in terms electrical modules reliability. The long-term stability is tested evaluated using accelerated aging tests degradation modelling. Based on experimental results, influence type backsheet (i) output power PV test (ii) aging-related material under stress was estimated statistical modelling approaches. First results showing significant effects for encapsulant, combination both initial are presented. In general, with polypropylene-based a higher (PMPP) than those PET-based backsheets, thermoplastic (TPO) encapsulation being superior other combinations. A comparison material-dependent rates obtained from mixed-effects models clearly shows that rate upon damp heat exposure EVA significantly larger encapsulants. derived relations aim provide valuable input innovative developments as well predictive maintenance specifications.
